Bausch foundation grant

Grant to support international training, cornea transplants & eye bank education

Bausch Foundation grant supports global operations for underserved countries

NEW JERSEY, Dec. 28, 2023 – The Bausch Foundation has awarded Eversight a $5,000 grant to support the nonprofit’s efforts to eliminate corneal blindness worldwide through eye bank development, clinical training and tissue provision.

This grant will help support virtual training opportunities for international surgeons, cornea tissue placement for patients living in low-income communities and virtual training for international eye bankers to foster sustainable eye banking in countries with the greatest need.

"Our work is focused on serving locations with high need for corneal transplantation, where patients don’t have access to or often wait years for this life-changing surgery,” said Collin Ross, Vice President, Global Development & Partner Relations, Eversight. “With the Bausch Foundation’s support, we can reach more people worldwide who are suffering from treatable blindness and continue educating international surgeons and eye bankers so they can serve more patients.”

Eversight is one of the few nonprofit eye bank networks with the expertise, cultural competence and philanthropic support to help developing countries establish their own eye banking infrastructure. In 2022, philanthropic support helped Eversight train 50 international surgeons on the best corneal transplantation techniques and provide corneal tissue for 2,725 people living in low- to middle-income countries.

"Bausch + Lomb has been a longtime supporter of the eye bank community. This grant will support Eversight’s efforts in providing critical training and eye care to people around the world,” said Yehia Hashad, Executive Vice President, Research and Development, and Chief Medical Officer, Bausch + Lomb.

The Bausch Foundation was established to improve the lives of patients globally by providing access to safe, effective medicines and by financially supporting health care education and causes. By supporting Eversight’s global operations, the Bausch Foundation joins an alliance focused on making vision a reality for the millions of people around the world who are living in darkness.
