New Jersey Lions provide grants for Eversight’s work to restore sight

CLARK, N.J. Jan. 11, 2021 — New Jersey Lions have demonstrated their commitment to sight restoration with multiple grants to Eversight that will benefit needed medical supplies for eye donation and recovery.

Four Lions foundations have provided funding for Eversight to purchase 44 clinical recovery kits, with the supplies necessary to carry out the wishes of New Jersey donors who give the gift of sight.  The recoveries will lead to 80 people or more who can regain their sight through cornea transplantation, and help advance research into treatment and cures for blinding eye conditions.

The generous funders are the Lions District 16-J Charitable Foundation, the Lions District 16-N Charitable Foundation and New Jersey Lions Charitable Foundation, which each contributed $2,500; and the Lions District 16-L Charitable Foundation, which contributed $1,000.

Like Eversight, the New Jersey Lions have long been champions in the fight to end blindness. The gifts are the most recent in a 50-year relationship between New Jersey Lions and Eversight, formerly known as the Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey.

In 2019, 882 New Jersey residents gave the gift of sight as cornea donors. As work continues in 2021, support from Lions Clubs and foundations—along with generous Lions who give individually—ensure that Eversight’s dedicated staff has the supplies needed to provide surgeons with safe transplantable eye tissue to restore their patients’ vision.

“We are proud to continue partnering with the New Jersey Lions in our ongoing fight to end blindness,” said Jennifer Rosenblatt, Eversight Philanthropy Director. “It is with this support that our work to provide the gift of sight through corneal transplants and research can continue, and that people can experience the joy of seeing their families, friends and loved ones once again.”
